Looking for inspo

 Hey guys! 

So as you may know college life is super hectic and busy. So we are still waiting to hear back from the coaches of the University of Miami Sunsations. While waiting for an answer, I decided to look for some inspiration and ideas for our documentary in the future. My group and I came across this mini documentary on Youtube from the University of Michigan. They did more of like documentary about their experience at UDA nationals in Orlando. 

UDA, short for Universal dance association, was "founded in 1980 as Universal Dance Camps. It was started as a need for educational training for what were then called 'drill teams.' UDA actually started calling them “dance teams” to better promote the activity." UDA is like professional competitive dance for college teams. Theres a multitude of categories to compete in. To be specific, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, pom, etc. There are different divisions, it goes from division 1 to 4. All college teams will be RANKED in each division and each team will receive an award for their placement. It's a big deal for college students and it is a whole new world for normal competitive dancers like myself. 

The Michigan dance team showed their experience at UDA and it was quite inspiring. Obviously we are in the middle of a pandemic, so competition season for dancers looks a bit different. But, we do think it can be a cool twist to kind of just talk about the training, performing at games during covid, and how unique it is that all of the dancers come from different places in the world and still make one team. These are just some ideas, but we definitely want to do something in the range of college dance.

First group meeting!

 Hi guys! 

So today we had our first group meeting to engage with other students in our class and present our ideas for our project. I always love doing this because other students in my class are very wise and have some great ideas. Last year my group meeting was very beneficial because we had zero idea on what we wanted to do. Even with school being virtual, group meetings are always the best. Since I have a brief idea on what I want to do for my A level project this year and still am pending approval on the dance team coach at University of Miami, there wasn't much to talk about during the meeting. But, it was very cool to listen to other peoples ideas. Some people were also doing documentaries in my group while others were doing short films and music videos. 

One thing I did get out of my meeting was this unique app called Procreate. This app is very good for animation and making GIFs. I feel like this can be very useful if you are low on footage other than your interviews. Animation is a great way to fill in the blank spots and it is a great way to get creative. I will definitely watch some tutorials on this app that is available on my Iphone. Overall, the meeting was great and I am looking forward to another one. Talk soon!

Waiting for an answer...

Hii!

So for our idea as I have stated before, we wanted to do our documentary on the University of Miami Dance Team. The UM Sunsations as they call themselves. Two of my close friends Lea and Kailynn are apart of this amazing dance team. They compete in college competitions like UDA as well as perform at Miami football games and basketball games. We thought it could be cool to interview my two friends and the coaches. Since we are in a pandemic, we obviously need permission. So I decided to reach out to my friends to talk to their coaches. We are still waiting on an answer, but once we find out it will solidify a lot of our project so we could get rolling! I will keep you guys updated when Lea and Kailynn answer! Talk soon!

Let's get rolling

 Hey guys! 

So as our group is still brainstorming, we decided to make a shared google docs to help keep organized along the way. On this document, we have a calendar with all the dates that we want to get things done, the due date which is April 12th, project ideas, blogpost ideas, and everything else to help keep our project organized. We are still in mid February so we have a little bit over a month to complete our project and all that comes with it. Since we are still brainstorming, my blog posts aren't too lengthy, but as soon as we get a solid idea for our documentary they will be! Talk to you guys soon!

Ideas on Ideas...

Hi guys!

    So, after collaborating with my classmates we have decided on doing a documentary. When we did this project in class we really enjoyed it, so why not do it again? BUT, even better! We came up with an idea  for our documentary, but we are definitely still brainstorming on what we want to. One idea we had was doing a Competitive College Dance Team Series (University of Miami). We have two really close friends on the dance team at the University of Miami and we thought it would be a really unique idea to kind of make a series about the road to competition life in college. 

    Although we did do a whole lesson on documentaries; I wanted to refresh my memory a bit so I did some research and wanted to show you some key elements of a documentary.

Aannd we're back..

 Hey guys! It's me again.. 

I can't believe it is this time of year again! Aice Media AS level has taught me so much and I couldn't help but want more! So here I am in A level.. I am so so excited to start up on my new portfolio project for this year. I can't wait to bring you guys along with me on my journey and blog with you guys every step of the way! This year I am working with Jennifer and Autumn and we have decided to work on a documentary series. This is definitely different from last years film opening, but I cannot wait to show you all of the new things I have learned and have you along with me!
